Opening Day Firearm Deer Season In Michigan
Well this year I’m living in the city so I’m missing the normal early morning sounds of gunfire as the sun comes up. That’s right it’s opening day of the firearm deer hunting season in Michigan my home state.
I remember many a morning getting up early, praying for snow, walking as quiet as I could to my spot on my Uncle Ray’s farm in the pre-dawn darkness. Above my desk is the trophy 8 point I took there when I was 16.
Why am I in front of my computer instead of in the field this year? The biggest reason is the loss of my shotgun and rifle in a housefire in 2001 but the other is even more important. Safety. I don’t hunt on public land because I don’t know the hunting practices of others out there. It’s important to me to know how someone hunts and their habits during firearm season so I only hunt on private land and currently I just don’t have access to any.
